A chat with the band about their new album, 'ROMEO'.

I’ve got a massive soft spot for Western Sydney boyband Breakfast Road. I’ve interviewed them a couple of times, for both VICE and Junkee, as part of larger pieces, and had a lot of fun in the process. They’ve just released their new album, ROMEO, and it’s one of the finest Australian pop/R&B albums of the year. Bombastic and bold, there’s an energy that crackles through ROMEO that feels larger-than-life — like witnessing a rising band moments before the rest of the world clocks onto what’s happening. As I said, I’m a big fan.

Something that sets Breakfast Road apart from many of their contemporaries, in my opinion, is their willingness to be unabashedly themselves online. Their TikTok account is a wild place — and I hold them at least partially responsible for the memeification of ‘FEIN’.
