In addition to pursuing music journalism, I work full-time in digital marketing/copywriting (and always have). There’s a natural synergy, in my opinion. You’re still telling stories, just with a different audience in mind. The same creative muscles are still being flexed. It also doesn’t hurt that copywriting/digital marketing pays better/is a more reliable source of income than music journalism, but that’s a discussion for another day.
I’ve seen the power of digital advertising up close through my day job, as I often sit at the helm of Meta/Google ad campaigns. I wanted to talk with someone who knows both the music and digital marketing worlds and has extensive experience running paid ad campaigns. Being an artist is expensive, so maximising the effectiveness of your budget every step of the way is key. Digital advertising is a way that I believe artists can get promotional bang for buck, but only if the ads are set up and run correctly.
