Spin To Win #16: Touching On Imposter Syndrome, A Conversation With Quivers
These two topics are not related, but both are interesting (I think).
One of my favourite quotes is "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now." It’s helped me push through a lot of music writing-related mental blocks. I was reminded of this quote when I received a lovely email from a reader about feeling ready to start writing about music. In truth, like a lot of other writers, imposter syndrome is a near-constant part of my writing process, and that feeling never truly arrives. Instead, it’s a block I push through to get my thoughts down, ideas that I have managed to convince myself will resonate with others (thankfully, this does seem to be the case).
My favourite part of the writing process is not when the piece gets published, but instead when you’re sending off the Google Docs link/Substack draft link to a few trusted friends to get their opinion. Once the piece is published, I often feel like I’ve let it go completely — it’s now out there in the world. This is usually when the comparisons start kicking in. After …
